A very rare reverse symbol
Lot 1601
SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Antiochos IV Epiphanes, 175-164 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.61 g, 12 h), Seleukeia on the Tigris. Diademed head of Antiochos to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIOX-Ο[Υ] Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; to inner left, facing bust of Helios; in exergue, monogram. SC 1505.3. Very rare. Some marks, otherwise, very fine.

From an American collection, formed before 2005.

The very unusual reverse symbol - a facing bust of Helios - is likely derived from the Babylonian tetradrachms of Alexander 'the Great' and Philip III.
